First woman to take over as commander of La Victoria penitentiary

Santo Domingo – The General Directorate of the National Police appointed Colonel María Isabel Gil Morales as the new commander of the National Penitentiary of La Victoria, replacing Colonel Víctor Hugo Mancebo.

She is the first woman to assume the functions of the commander of the said penitentiary center, where she was sworn in this afternoon by the regional director in Santo Domingo North of the National Police, General Julio César Acosta Félix.

The appointment of Colonel Gil Morales to the Operational Department I of the National Penitentiary La Victoria is contained in a memorandum issued by the police director general, Major General Ramon Antonio Guzman Peralta.

“We assume these delicate functions with the purpose of complying with the penitentiary norms and respecting the individual rights of all the inmates,” said the new head of La Victoria.

After being sworn in by the recently promoted General Acosta Felix, the new head of La Victoria toured different areas and exchanged impressions with police personnel on duty at the penitentiary.
