US Senator pushes for compliance with UN resolution on Haiti

Washington.- Democratic Senator Ben Cardin, Chair of the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has called upon the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to swiftly adhere to Resolution 2699, which mandates a multinational force, led by Kenya, to combat the pervasive gangs controlling Haiti.

Senator Cardin made this plea during a meeting with the Parliamentarians for the Americas (ParlAmericas) commission, in the presence of Dominican legislators led by Senate President Ricardo de los Santos. Also attending were Senators Carlos Gómez and José del Castillo Saviñón, Deputy Soraya Suárez, and Ambassador Alexander de la Rosa. Republican Senator Roger Wicker from Mississippi was also present.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Senator Cardin emphasized ongoing efforts within the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee to ensure compliance with the UNSC resolution amidst the current crisis gripping Haiti.

Senate President Ricardo De los Santos echoed Cardin’s sentiments, stressing the pressing need for the international community to prioritize addressing the Haitian crisis. He emphasized the escalating deterioration and urged concerted efforts to find solutions that alleviate the growing insecurity and violence plaguing the neighboring nation.
