Minister of Defense attends ‘Dominican Airgun Challenge’ event

Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, ERD, was a distinguished guest at the inauguration of the “Dominican Airgun Challenge” air rifle shooting tournament, held at the Sierra Prieta Tactical Training Center.

Accompanied by his wife, Wendy Santos de Díaz, President of the Dominican Association of Wives of Officers of the Armed Forces (ADEOFA), Vice Admiral Agustín Morillo Rodríguez, General Commander of the Navy of the Dominican Republic, and his wife, Rosa Amelia Sánchez de Morillo, President of the Dominican Association of Wives of Officers of the Navy of the Dominican Republic (ADEOARD), Minister Díaz Morfa presided over the event alongside other dignitaries.

Also in attendance were Major General Carlos A. Fernández Onofre, General Commander of the Army of the Dominican Republic, Vice Admiral Samuel O. Jiménez Lorenzo, Administrative Director of MIDE, Mr. Daniel Mateo Roa, Director of Control of the Marketing of Weapons and Ammunition of the Ministry of Interior and Police, Jeanny De La Rocha from the organizing company “ERM Solution,” and Hiram Morillo from “M&R Tacticals.”

Minister Díaz Morfa expressed gratitude for the invitation to the tournament’s opening and commended the Sierra Prieta Tactical Training Center for supporting non-lethal target shooting, a discipline that has gained prominence in the country over the years.

The primary aim of the event was to raise funds for the “Fundación Soy de Cristo.” Renowned swimmer Marcos Díaz and celebrated chef Saverio Stassi donated one hundred thousand Dominican pesos to the foundation during the ceremony. The foundation provides shelter and support for underprivileged or orphaned girls, offering them necessary care and training.

During his address, Hiram Morillo expressed his honor in being part of the Dominican Airgun Challenge board, highlighting the passion for the sport and expressing gratitude to God and his parents for their support. Jeanny De La Rocha, Director of “ERM Solutions,” also spoke proudly about honoring her father’s legacy through the tournament.

Minister Díaz Morfa was recognized for his dedication and professionalism with a plaque from the organizing committee.

Other notable attendees included Brigadier General Minoru Matsunaga Matsunaga PN, Central Director of the Tourism Police (POLITUR); Brigadier General Rafael Almonte Cid, Commander of the Metropolitan Joint Command of the Armed Forces; Brigadier General Delio Buenaventura Colón Rosario, ERD, President of the Sports Confederation of the Armed Forces and the National Police (CONFEDEFAPON); Mr. Sterling José Maldonado, Director of Registration and Control of Carrying and Possession of Weapons; and Mr. Geraldo Acevedo Marte, in charge of Inspection, Marketing of Weapons and Ammunition, both from the Ministry of the Interior and Police.

Additionally, Mario Álvarez, President of the Naco Club, and Paola Valerio, Deputy Director of the Korean Embassy in the Dominican Republic, were also present at the event.
