Las Américas Airport reopens after repairing “hole” in runway

Santo Domingo.- The Las Américas International Airport (AILA), José Francisco Peña Gómez, is operating normally after the repair of the asphalt detachment on runway 17-35 that caused its temporary closure.

The information was offered by Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), through a publication on its account on the X platform, where it indicated that since 12:35 a.m. today, Monday, April 8, all flights at AILA have been taking place without incident.

Likewise, the entity thanked “everyone for their understanding in this extraordinary situation.”

It should be noted that the “hole” in the runway as mentioned above caused delays in the arrival and departure of flights. Several flights had to be diverted to alternate airports.

Makes one wonder how often runway inspections are done looking for intruders, holes, and foreign objects? There would have been indication of the hole forming (cracks, loose aggregate) before it appeared.

Glad it was patched.

Preventative maintenance!

Note: foreign objects can be sucked into plane engines causing damage or worse.

“Preventative maintenance!”
Is proper expression and a wake up call …
“Maintenance” is forbidden in our country …
Use and abuse is more adequate explanation …
