Reina Sofia Museum Director Visits the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- Manuel Segade, Director of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain, is currently visiting the Dominican Republic at the invitation of the Embassy of Spain and the Cultural Center of Spain in Santo Domingo.

During his visit, Segade plans to tour the country’s major art museums and visit the studios of numerous local artists. He is scheduled to deliver a lecture at the Cultural Center of Spain (CCE) on Wednesday, July 3, at 7 pm.

The primary purpose of Segade’s visit is to explore the Dominican Republic’s artistic landscape, promote its exposure in Spain, and explore potential collaborations between the Museo Reina Sofía and Dominican cultural institutions.

During a meeting on July 1, Minister of Culture Milagros Germán and Segade discussed three areas of collaboration: exchange programs for staff training, inclusion of Dominican artists in the Museo Reina Sofía’s collection, and mutual exchange of exhibitions and activities.

Manuel Segade assumed the role of Director at the Museo Reina Sofía in June 2023, following an international competition. Previously, he served as Director of the Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M) in the Community of Madrid for eight years. Segade is widely recognized as a leading figure in international contemporary art.

The Museo Reina Sofía is renowned globally as a major contemporary art museum, attracting over four million visitors annually. It boasts the largest collection of modern and contemporary Latin American art in Europe.
