Pedernales falls into crisis after five days without water and power supply
Pedernales—The inhabitants of this border province continued yesterday without energy service, which worsened the crisis in the potable water service during this week. This generated shortages in the processors that sell the vital liquid.
Sectorized blackouts caused by mechanical failures in two of the electric generators of the company EGE HAINA in this municipality have aggravated the situation in the middle of a sweltering heat wave.
The day before yesterday, housewives and other residents set fire to tires in sectors where the daily blackouts affected homes, grocery stores, supermarkets, water processors, radio stations, and other services in the heart of this border city, which extends to Cabo Rojo, where a unit of the Dominican Republic Air Force operates.
According to reports, the mechanical malfunctions in the EGE HAINA plants could be corrected this weekend, while the population is irritated because it is not customary to suffer blackouts, heat, and a lack of drinking water.
Electric energy offers the service to users through Edesur and is installed in Libertad Avenue, where technicians of the company EGE HAINA work to correct the breakdown, while strange people emit speculations that do not agree with reality.
In the last few years, this town located on the country’s southern border has registered growth in all aspects, but the electric plant’s generation capacity has not increased.
Various sectors have begun to propose that, as a solution to the electric energy deficit, it will eventually be necessary to connect this network to the electric power line of the Wind Farm that operates in the province.
In Pedernales, the government and economic sectors are promoting an ambitious tourism project to develop the region.
The population of Pedernales is going through an unusual situation, without water and electricity.
Big projects, little or no infrastructure planning to accommodate them.
Did anyone proofread this before posting? I especially chuckled at the, “strange people emitting speculation” line. Sounds like people who live in my neighborhood 😉 …
