Dominican Republic’s Armed Forces inaugurate Human Rights and IHL Program

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s Armed Forces, through the Graduate School of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (EGDDHH and IHL) at the National University for Defense (UNADERD), has launched a new track in Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law. Located at the ERD’s 16 de Agosto Camp in the Villa Escondida facilities, the program includes practical exercises for junior officers on applying legal frameworks to military operations.

The inauguration was led by Francisco Ovalle Pichardo, Rector of the National University for Defense, and Brigadier General Ambiorix Cepeda Hernández, Director of EGDDHH and IHL. The event was supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross in Mexico and the Central American Conference of Armed Forces.

This new track aligns with the Ministry of Defense’s guidelines and includes participation from military personnel and international students from four countries studying Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law. It aims to enhance international cooperation and strengthen security and human rights protection.

Please, human rights in a country where approx 360,000 people born between 1929-2010 were left stateless, Look at the inter american human rights reports for the last 30 yrs in the Dominican Republic, it reads like a war crime journal. The PRNE fiasco, what about the Judgment 168/13 and the provisions of Articles 6, 8, and 11 of Law No. 169-14?. Lets talk about the DGM and JCE
