Dominican Republic condemns Venezuela’s violation of diplomatic agreements

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican government has strongly rejected Venezuela’s recent decision to unilaterally revoke Brazil’s recognition as Argentina’s diplomatic representative in Venezuela. This move disrupts the protection of Argentina’s diplomatic assets and archives in the country. In its statement, the Dominican government emphasized that this action is a clear violation of international law, specifically the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations of 1961 and 1963.

Additionally, the Dominican government expressed concern over the impact this decision has on Venezuelan citizens seeking asylum at the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, which is protected under the 1954 Caracas Convention on Diplomatic Asylum. The Dominican Republic reiterated its solidarity with both Argentina and Brazil, calling on Venezuela to respect international commitments and uphold the inviolability of diplomatic missions.
