Nationalists back President Abinader’s concerns on Haitian immigration
Santo Domingo.- Nationalists have expressed support for President Luis Abinader’s remarks at the United Nations General Assembly regarding the challenges posed by Haitian immigration, stemming from Haiti’s ongoing political, social, and economic turmoil. In his speech, Abinader highlighted the strain this immigration places on the Dominican Republic and urged the international community to take action.
In response, nationalist groups are advocating for the Dominican government to implement measures aimed at alleviating the pressures on local schools, hospitals, and border security. They propose creating a special program for undocumented Haitian children to ensure they do not occupy educational slots meant for Dominican citizens. Additionally, they suggest establishing fees in hospitals to reduce the number of undocumented women giving birth in the country.
Former President Hipólito Mejía weighed in, arguing that the focus should be on addressing the crisis in Haiti itself rather than imposing measures within the Dominican Republic. He emphasized the need for international intervention in Haiti to help stabilize the situation.
Completely agree with the nationalists’ proposals. Those measures should’ve been implemented long ago.
Start creating schools hospital and jobs in Haiti. The Haitians will never leave Dr. if the United Nations don’t create opportunities.
A government’s first duty is to care for its own citizens. If there is anything left over and the people wish it, they can help others. There is no “duty” for the government to assist the citizens of another country (especially at the expense of their own citizens wefare). I support President Abinader!
For those who think we should just turn a blind eye to this tidal wave of immigration—wake up! This isn’t about being “compassionate” or “neighborly”, it’s about keeping our country from collapsing under the weight of someone else’s crisis.Meanwhile haiti’s elite, resting in their compounds while their country falls apart and their people flee. They’ve abandoned their own, and now it’s our problem. Enough is enough.
