Immigration has issued almost 44,000 residencies to foreigners this year

National Territory – According to the Department of Statistics of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), 43,743 residences were issued to foreigners until September of this year, of which 42% were for temporary work stays.

Immigration authorities issued 18,373 temporary work permits (TT-1s). These authorizations are valid for one year and are aimed at foreigners who enter the Dominican Republic with an employment contract endorsed by a company legally constituted in the country.

The month with the most emissions was August, in which permits for seasonal workers reached 2,935.

The second most issued type of residence until September was (RT-9), representing 33.6% of total shipments. This permit is for foreigners who intend to settle temporarily in the country.

The DGM authorized temporary residency ( RT-9) to some 14,703 persons in the first nine months of the year, with May being the busiest month, with 2,293 permits granted.

The student category (E-1) was the third most demanded, representing 5.5% of the issuances. During this period, 2,445 residences were granted, with a peak in May.

According to statistics, up to September, 2,308 foreigners were granted permanent residency ( RP-1).

According to information from the same entity, changing immigration status to permanent resident (RP-1) is an extension of the residence permit for one year granted to foreigners who have met the condition of annual renewal of their permit (RT-9). This service is aimed at people who have fulfilled the condition of renewing their temporary worker permit for five years of residence.

Other residences in high demand were RT-3 (people for work purposes only), RT-7 (dependents of RT-3 and RT-4 residents), and RT-4 (religious people).

And how many Pensionado Visas issued? Likely next to zero, I’ve been trying to get this office to approve my visa for 2.5 years, they seem unable to process any such Visa in a timely manner! They prefer we pay overstay fees aparantamente
