Ministry of Culture launches fund to support projects amid Patronage Law tax issues
Santo Domingo.- In response to issues with the Patronage Law and its tax incentives, the Dominican Ministry of Culture has activated a fund to support cultural projects initially intended to receive funding through the law. Minister Milagros Germán announced that 10 million pesos will be allocated to help launch 30 out of 100 selected projects. The law, which aims to encourage private support for cultural initiatives through tax incentives, is currently under review due to ambiguities in its tax benefit provisions.
Minister Germán noted that implementing the Patronage Law is still a new process, requiring the Ministry to establish an administrative structure for its application. During this process, flaws were identified in the wording of the tax incentives, prompting a need for revisions to ensure clarity and effectiveness.
Addressing recent criticism of tax incentives provided by the Film Law, Germán emphasized that adjustments have been made, including setting production limits. She highlighted that these incentives not only benefit filmmakers through tax credits but also create broader economic gains by fostering local employment and economic activity within Dominican communities.
