Proposal for organ donor indicator on Dominican ID
Santo Domingo.- The Vice President of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN), Ramón Emilio Goris, recently met with the President of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, to discuss a groundbreaking initiative: adding a red heart symbol on the Dominican Identity Card to signify organ donor status. This proposal, spearheaded by PARLACEN deputies Krimilda Acosta and Namibia Didiez, was recently approved by the regional body.
During the meeting, Jáquez Liranzo expressed the JCE’s commitment to incorporating the feature into the upcoming redesign of the national Identity and Electoral document. He emphasized the proposal’s significance for public health and its potential to enhance citizens’ well-being. Jáquez also highlighted the modernization efforts underway for the identity document, aimed at improving its functionality for Dominicans both domestically and abroad.
Goris and Acosta thanked the JCE president and his team for their support, expressing optimism about the proposal’s life-saving impact for patients reliant on organ transplants. They underscored the collaboration between PARLACEN and the JCE as a vital step toward advancing innovative policies that strengthen health systems, uphold human rights, and foster regional cooperation.
