Race to complete San Pedro de Macorís Boardwalk amid ministerial deadline
San Pedro de Macorís.- Workers are racing against time and battling adverse weather conditions to complete the renovation of the San Pedro de Macorís boardwalk. Following a summons from Tourism Minister David Collado, the Kuky Construction Company, responsible for the project, has expedited efforts to meet the new eight-day deadline.
The 1.2-kilometer project includes eight vendor booths, sidewalks, a stormwater system, landscaping, benches, and an exercise area. While the booths and sidewalks are finished, remaining tasks involve repairing a sinkhole, polishing floors, and completing landscaping along Gastón Fernando Deligne Avenue.
Rafael Octavio Silverio Galán, owner of Kuky Construction, attributed delays to prolonged rainfall and subcontractor issues. Acknowledging community and government pressure, he emphasized that his team is working intensively to meet the revised timeline. Previously fined four million pesos for missing the original 18-month deadline, Silverio expressed hope for understanding from the ministry if unforeseen challenges persist. The project is slated for completion next week.
