Dominican authorities enforce strict safety measures for Easter 2025

Santo Domingo.- In a move to safeguard citizens and tourists during Holy Week 2025, Dominican authorities have launched a nationwide operation focused on maintaining safety and public order across beaches, resorts, and highways.
The Dominican Navy has banned parties and unauthorized structures—such as tents, platforms, and mobile discotheques—on all beaches under its control. The directive, issued by Captain Feliciano Pérez Carvajal, applies to key coastal areas including Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, Samaná, Boca Chica, and La Romana. Enforcement will be supported by Politur, Senpa, the National Police, and the Emergency Operations Center (COE).
The Ministry of Tourism also issued Resolution DJ/002-2025, which restricts beach activity and alcohol sales. From 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., all beaches will be closed, and the sale of alcohol is strictly banned on Good Friday. Jet skis, motorized beach vehicles, and unauthorized vendors are also prohibited. Tour operators must comply with safety regulations, including having certified lifeguards and properly licensed boats with QR codes.
Additional efforts by the Ministry of Public Works include a large-scale cleaning and maintenance initiative in Greater Santo Domingo. Key infrastructure such as tunnels and overpasses on Duarte Highway, 27 de Febrero Avenue, and Las Américas Avenue will be cleaned and serviced between April 15 and 19.
These combined efforts aim to reduce risks and ensure a peaceful and secure holiday for all.
There needs to be broader change instead of short sighted reform that lasts a couple weeks. Make DUI stops, hold people accountable for their driving actions. If there was a real chance at jail time for excessive drinking and driving, people may hesitate to do it… Also, its unfair to institute these rules after people have already purchased their vacation packages home to celebrate this week under false pretenses. It will not be like years past where there has been zero accountability. The gov loves to make laws and enforce them for a month or two, then goes back to normal. AMET is useless. Real reform starts at the local level with education programs early on to change behavior that is dangerous and risky.
I don’t think the beach closure from 6 PM to 6 AM applies to resorts…
