Cuban Ambassador rejects U.S. decision to relist Cuba as a terrorism sponsor
Santo Domingo.- Cuban Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Ángel Arzuaga Reyes, strongly criticized the recent decision by the United States to reinstate Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, calling the measure unjustified. Speaking on El Despertador, Arzuaga argued that no valid reasons support this designation, emphasizing that former President Donald Trump initially placed Cuba on the list without evidence.
Arzuaga recalled that under Barack Obama’s administration, Cuba had been removed from the list, leading to restored diplomatic relations and the signing of over 20 bilateral agreements. However, he denounced Trump’s move to reinstate Cuba, labeling it as a political maneuver. While President Joe Biden later removed Cuba from the list, the ambassador expressed concern over its renewed inclusion.
The diplomat stressed that this classification severely impacts Cuba’s economy by restricting trade, foreign investments, and tourism. He also criticized U.S. immigration policies, particularly regarding the Guantanamo naval base and the treatment of undocumented immigrants, highlighting their broader implications for U.S.-Cuba relations.
While I question the validity of placing CUBA back on the list of terror sponsors at this point, illegal aliens in the US are treated uniformly and with human respect. These criminal illegal aliens are treated as what they are, violent criminals who need to be detained in a manner that prevents them from further criminal activity until they are returned to their home country. The naval base at Guantanamo is a perfect facility for this purpose until they can be repatriated. Like it or not…US policy is simple. If you enter illegally you are a criminal in violation of federal law and will be treated as such.
