Adompretur meets with four media directors to discuss collaboration

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur) held a meeting with four media directors to discuss ways to collaborate and promote tourism in the country.

According to a press release sent to the media, the meeting, held at the Barceló Santo Domingo Hotel, was attended by Persio Maldonado, director of El Nuevo Diario; Alex Jiménez, director of Primicias; Fausto Rosario Adames, director of Acento.com; and Irmgard De la Cruz, representing Aníbal De Castro, director of Diario Libre.

Adompretur president Yenny Polanco Lovera said the meeting was an opportunity to thank the media directors for their support and to discuss ways to work together to promote tourism in the Dominican Republic.

“As journalists, we have the mission of keeping the population well informed, in our case, about tourism,” she said. “In 2023, this sector contributed 620,000 direct jobs and generated an estimated US$11 billion in foreign exchange.”

The meeting also included a discussion of the challenges and opportunities facing the tourism industry in the Dominican Republic.

Persio Maldonado, director of El Nuevo Diario, said the country should focus on adding value to its tourism product.

“We must make ourselves aware of the importance of preserving the natural resources that are the lifeblood of this activity,” he said. “What we have achieved makes me affirm that tourism is the journalistic area with the greatest potential in the Dominican Republic.”

Alex Jiménez, director of Primicias, said journalists must continue to be committed to society and to providing accurate information about tourism.

“We must also be aware of the importance of training journalists in technology and cybersecurity,” he said.

Fausto Rosario, director of Acento, said the Dominican Republic is at a time of transformation and that Adompretur must analyze the role of journalism in this new reality.

“We must link tourism journalism with community journalism so that we can achieve a harmonious coexistence between visitors and our territory,” he said.

Polanco Lovera expressed gratitude for the attendance of media directors and journalists specializing in tourism, as well as the esteemed members of the 2023-2025 board of directors: Salvador Batista as Vice President, Cristian Mota as Secretary General, José Alberto Selmo as Director of Institutional Relations, Cristina Rosario as Director of Events, and Juan de Dios Valentín as Director of Regional Affairs (branches).

Adompretur is a non-profit organization that brings together journalists and tourism professionals in the Dominican Republic. The organization works to promote tourism in the country and to provide training and support for journalists who cover the tourism industry.
