Haitian government extends state of emergency

Port-au-Prince.- The Haitian government announced a one-month extension of the state of emergency in the West department, which encompasses the capital Port-au-Prince, citing ongoing insecurity and violence.

This move comes after the initial state of emergency and the extendable 72-hour curfew, declared on Sunday for the same department, expired on Wednesday. The decision to extend the measures is a response to the heightened tensions in the country, compounded by the absence of Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who is presently in Puerto Rico.
