Coffee Monte Bonito: a gift to New York’s Dominican community

New York.- The Sur Futuro Foundation, through its renowned quality-certified brand “Café Monte Bonito,” hosted a special presentation and tasting event of its coffee for the Dominican community at the Dominican Consulate in New York.

Promoted by ProDominicana, the event saw the esteemed presence of Consul Eligio Jáquez, President Melba Segura de Grullón, Executive Director of Sur Futuro Elena Del Conte, and Raiza Rodríguez, International Business Executive of ProDominicana. The gathering brought together members of supermarket associations, wine shops, restaurants, distributors, and coffee importers.

During the presentation, Melba Segura de Grullón, President of Sur Futuro, emphasized that Café Monte Bonito ensures fair income for coffee-producing families and their communities. They provide technical assistance and training to producers, supporting their development, and facilitating the adoption of technological advancements to increase productivity. The certification, promotion, and marketing of Café Monte Bonito epitomize a commitment to environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

Elena Del Conte, Executive Director of the Sur Futuro Foundation, highlighted during the presentation that Café Monte Bonito is cultivated in coffee plantations under natural shade systems. This ensures optimal grain quality while preserving the native and migratory biodiversity that inhabits or seeks refuge in various tree species. Additionally, these shade trees contribute to the capture or sequestration of CO2, mitigating global warming and climate change.

Del Conte also underscored the Foundation’s significant role in promoting the development and social well-being of vulnerable communities in the Dominican Republic.

Consul General of the Dominican Republic, Eligio Jáquez, expressed his support for the Café Monte Bonito brand and acknowledged the Sur Futuro Foundation’s commendable work over the past 22 years. He highlighted the invaluable efforts made for the most disadvantaged communities and for the conservation of natural resources.

Attendees had the opportunity to savor the delightful Monte Bonito coffee, 100% Dominican coffee cultivated in the picturesque lands of the south of the Dominican Republic. This event was conceived to celebrate culture, sustainability, and a commitment to the progress of our communities.
