JetBlue CEO urges Trump to revamp U.S. air traffic control system
United States.- JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty has called on U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to address the country’s air traffic control system, citing issues of inadequate staffing and outdated technology. In a recent television interview, Geraghty highlighted the severe shortage of air traffic controllers, particularly affecting airlines operating in the New York area, including JetBlue.
She explained that the pandemic disrupted the hiring and training of air traffic controllers, exacerbating the shortage, which, combined with retirements, has strained the aviation system. However, she noted that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) hired 1,811 controllers this year, the highest number in nearly a decade. Geraghty expressed hope for continued hiring, technological upgrades, and reduced delays.
Despite these concerns, she has not yet met with members of the incoming administration but remains optimistic about improvements in air traffic control.
