According to the COE, the provinces on red alert are Independencia and Azua; on yellow, Barahona, Peravia, Pedernales, San Juan, Bahoruco, Elías Piña, San José de Ococa, Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo, and San Cristóbal. Meanwhile, in green are Santiago Rodríguez, Montecristi, Puerto Plata, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, Dajabón, La Vega, Santiago, and Valverde.
For its part, the National Meteorological Office (Onamet), said Saturday that, after 24 hours, significant accumulated rainfall was recorded over the provinces located in the southwest of the country, such as Padre las Casas, Azua, with 287 millimeters, Arpt. María Montes, Barahona with 192, Jimani, Independencia with 176, San José De Ocoa with 144.3.
These bad weather conditions, says the report, were due to the high moisture content provided by the south/southeast wind from the Caribbean Sea and the instability of a trough at different levels of the troposphere, so this afternoon and evening will continue the activities of moderate downpours heavy at times, thunderstorms and gusty winds in different provinces of the Caribbean coast, especially the southwest, northwest, Central Cordillera and the border area.
