Danilo Medina: “Christmas is sad and cold because people are living a difficult situation”

Danilo Medina, president of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), echoed the population’s appreciation, considering the current cold Christmas season, which is attributed to the scarcity of resources and work.

“People are in a difficult situation, with a shortage of resources and work,” explained Danilo Medina, responding to journalists as he left the assembly of PLD leaders held this Thursday in Bonao, the capital municipality of the Monsignor Nouel province.

He argued that the Dominican people have been losing their ability to acquire goods and services due to the enormous inflation in the PRM government. Everything is expensive. “There are not enough jobs either. There is no work,” he replied.

Danilo Medina responded to journalists, having Johnny Pujols, secretary general and members of the Political Committee and the provincial leadership of the PLD in Monsignor Nouel, by his side. He reiterated that the natural movement of the Christmas season in the Dominican Republic is not felt.

What will the PLD do? He was asked.

“The PLD is working to return, for these things to change, to give back to the country the hope and the way of life it lost,” he responded.

He quoted journalists as saying he heard from a peasant in the northwest line, who recalled that in the PLD government, the refrigerators in homes were full, and now “they are upstream and downstream.”

The President of the PLD was asked about the Christmas boxes his government delivered and the current Christmas bonuses, which have become a scandal.

“The boxes were delivered openly, in the churches, in the governorates, they were given to all social organizations, to opposition legislators, to political parties; therefore, the Christmas boxes were felt throughout the national territory. Today we do not know if the name of SIUBEN was changed, in our management the social benefit cards were granted with the data of the SIUBEN (Unified Welfare System), which is the gateway to people who need to benefit from social programs,” he said.

The assembly of the leaders of the PLD of the Monsignor Nouel province was held in a room full of members of the leadership of the Municipal Committees, Municipal Districts, the Provincial Directorate, Presidents of Intermediate Committees of Bonao, and others.

In addition to Danilo Medina and Johnny Pujols, the assembly’s front line was composed of Félix Nova, Provincial President; Carlos Veras, Municipal President; and Luis Armando Asunción, Liaison. Nicolás Restituyo, provincial vice president, Fiordaliza Pichardo, former mayoral candidate, Reinaldo Pichardo Director of Juan Adrián.

The members of the Political Committee, Maribel Acosta, Simón Lizardo, Roberto Rodríguez Marchena, Robert de la Cruz, Margarita Pimentel, Elías Cornelio, Héctor Olivo, Aura Toribio, and Thelma Eusebio, were present at the activity.

The assembly took place first, with Monsignor Fausto Ramón Mejía Vallejo’s intervention, which blessed the activity and the interventions of Carlos Veras and Félix Nova.

Johnny Pujols, Secretary General, explained the assembly’s methodology for mobilizing the party and applying the recommendations of the recently concluded X Ordinary Congress Reinaldo Pared Pérez.

Six of the participating leaders presented ideas and recommendations for party activism, which served as the basis for President Danilo Medina’s intervention, which concluded the activity.

“The PLD is working to return, for these things to change, to give back to the country the hope and the way of life it lost,” he responded.” His concern for the people is vacant. He wants to return to leadership maybe to get back the way of life “he” has lost.
