Construction of major dam in the South full steam ahead

Santo Domingo.-  The dams and canals agency (Indrhi) on Tues. said the excavations have concluded for the detour tunnels prior to filling the dam at Monte Grande, in Barahona (south).

Indrhi director Olgo Fernández said the pouring of the concrete structure will now start, and plans to conclude those works by the end of Dec.

He also reported progress in the construction of the service spillway and bottom drainage prior to the construction of the emergency spillway that will support the reservoir. “The concrete towers that support the diversion and discharge tunnels are advanced in more than 70% and could be exhibiting them in less than a month.”

He said the equipment and machinery to ensure nonstop work have already been imported, and could be finished before schedule. “We’re on schedule, weather conditions have greatly favored us and we have to take advantage of the acceleration of work and climatic favorability.”
