Southwest residents warned of heavy downpours

Santo Domingo.- The National Meteorology Office (Onamet) cautions residents in low lying areas in the country’s Southwest region of heavy downpours, from a large cloud mass associated with a low pressure system over Haiti.

It said the prevailing East-Southeast wind will drag humidity, brining scattered, often heavy showers and thunderstorms nationwide today, with moderate to strong precipitations in the Southwest, Central mountains, border zone and South coast.

Onamet added that an area of heavy showers and thunderstorms located over the Bahamas pres average conditions to be develop into a tropical storm during the next 24 hours, adding that it was that system which unleashed the downpours over Greater Santo Domingo on the weekend.
