President Danilo Medina dismisses education minister

Santo Domingo.– President Danilo Medina last night dismissed education minister Josefina Pimentel, and instead appointed Carlos Amarante Baret, who served as president of the Dominican Telecom Institute (Indotel).

Gedeon Santos was named by Medina to replace the outgoing Indotel president. Pimentel had been appointed in the position by former President Leonel Fernandez on March 1, 2011, and ratified on August 16, 2012 by President Medina.

Herdismissal occurs amid complaints of delays in the payment of calculations ofworks as part of the Government’s national program of school construction, aswell as and non-fulfillment of the expectations with the extended school day.
