UN reports 5,601 violent deaths in Haiti

Haiti.- Haiti experienced a sharp escalation in violence in 2024, with at least 5,601 people killed by criminal gangs—1,000 more than the previous year—according to the United Nations Office for Human Rights. The violence also left 2,212 people injured and 1,494 kidnapped, highlighting the worsening security crisis.

“These figures alone cannot capture the sheer horror in Haiti, but they do show the unrelenting violence to which the population is being subjected,” stated Volker Türk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The data underscores the urgent need for solutions to address the growing threat posed by criminal gangs and the impact on Haiti’s population.
