Beltway’s 2nd span ready by June 30, but hurdles emerge

Santo Domingo.- The Santo Domingo Beltway’s second span, from Duarte Highway to Villa Mella, will be inaugurated June 30, Public Works Ministry operations chief Ramón Antonio Pepin announced Tuesday.

Meanwhile area residents complain that Public Works retains the titles to their homes, which were demolished to make way for the highway.

The second span of around 16 kilometers will be ready in June, while the third, from Villa Mella to La Victoria will finished by year end, Pepin said, quoted by listin.com.do

The official said construction of the section that starts 23 kilometers north of the capital on the Duarte highway is around 70 percent complete, whereas the Beltway’s fourth and final span, from La Victoria to the Samana Highway, still has no completion date.

Drawbacks

Among the drawback which emerged in the construction of the first span, of 17.7 kilometers, is that the road linking at least five area communities has been cut off.
