El Granero del Sur Domestic Airport progresses rapidly in San Juan

San Juan de la Maguana, DR.- The construction of El Granero del Sur Domestic Airport in San Juan province is advancing steadily, with work already halfway complete, according to Víctor Pichardo, executive director of the Airport Department (DA). During a supervisory tour, Pichardo reaffirmed that the project aligns with President Luis Abinader’s vision of fostering development in the southern region.

Pichardo announced that the first phase of the airport is expected to be operational in the second half of the year. He highlighted that the runway is nearly ready for paving, while the terminal and an Air Force barracks are also under construction. Coordination with the Dominican Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI) is underway to divert a canal, further expediting the work.

Provincial governor Ana María Castillo praised the project’s progress, emphasizing its potential economic benefits for San Juan. The airport is expected to boost connectivity and regional development, enhancing opportunities for local businesses and agriculture.
