Minister of Housing encourages young people to drive change in the construction sector

Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Housing and Buildings (MIVED), Carlos Bonilla, has urged young people to continue driving change in the construction sector of the Dominican Republic.

Speaking at the 13th Edition of the Young Person of the Year Award by Gala Media, Minister Bonilla highlighted the significant impact young professionals have had on the construction industry, marking a clear before-and-after transformation in the sector.

On the eve of National Youth Day, Bonilla emphasized that young individuals are the catalysts for change. He pointed out that when a young engineer or architect strives to establish themselves in a highly competitive construction market, they must approach things differently.

“These young professionals enter the industry and force the competition to adapt, ensuring that everyone evolves to remain relevant in the market,” stated the minister during the forum “Young People Who Transform: Stories of Overcoming Challenges, Inspiration, and Leadership.”

Bonilla underscored that the Ministry of Housing and Buildings is fostering spaces where young people can develop innovative ideas, ultimately reshaping the construction sector.

“To young people, I say: do not be afraid. If you have an idea and believe in it, fight to implement it. Carve your own path, do not wait for opportunities to come to you—seek them out. With determination and a strong idea, success is inevitable,” Bonilla encouraged.

As an example, he referenced Los Trinitarios, a group of young visionaries who played a key role in the Dominican Republic’s independence by pushing forward their renewed ideas.

During the event, Minister Bonilla was honored with the Young Person of the Year Award by Gala Media for the eighth time. He was recognized alongside 25 other young leaders, including Minister of the Presidency José Paliza, Minister of Public Administration Sigmund Freund, Director General of Supérate Gloria Reyes, and Executive Director of the Dominican Port Authority Jean Luis Rodríguez, among other notable figures from the private, political, social, cultural, sports, and academic sectors.

This prestigious award celebrates extraordinary young individuals whose dedication, vision, and contributions have significantly impacted various areas of society.
