Santo Domingo bans cargo trucks on Malecón to improve safety
Santo Domingo.- Starting Friday, January 31, the National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (Intrant) and the National District Mayor’s Office (ADN) will prohibit cargo vehicles with two or more axles from circulating on the Malecón in Santo Domingo, between the port and the Luperón Avenue distributor. This measure aims to reduce traffic accidents caused by heavy vehicles in urban areas.
Trucks heading to the port must use the designated route via John F. Kennedy Avenue and Francisco del Rosario Sánchez Avenue, in line with the city’s Restricted Access Zone (ZAR) regulations. Circulation permits will only be issued in person at the National District Mayor’s Office between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., while emergency and public service vehicles are exempt.
The restriction applies to George Washington Avenue (Malecón de Santo Domingo) and the 30 de Mayo Highway, reinforcing efforts to enhance road safety and urban mobility.
