New York.- The U.S. federal government has officially designated Washington Heights, home to a large Dominican population, as a Dominican Historic District, Congressman Adriano Espaillat announced.

Espaillat celebrated the recognition, highlighting its significance in preserving Dominican heritage. “Our community has been added to the National Register of Historic Places, ensuring that the Dominican legacy in Washington Heights is preserved for future generations,” he stated.

This designation opens doors to new funding for preservation efforts, promotes heritage tourism, and acknowledges the Dominican community’s contributions to American history. “This is our moment—our history is now part of the nation’s history. Long live Dominican culture!” Espaillat concluded.
