UN stresses that ‘The resolution of Haiti’s crisis rests solely with the Haitian people’

The United Nations emphasized that the resolution of the crisis in Haiti rests solely with the Haitian people, with their role limited to supporting their decisions.

Responding to concerns about the lack of progress due to deep divisions among Haitian parties, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, stressed that the process must be driven by Haitians themselves.

“The Haitian political class and civil society actors must seek the best solution to move forward, and there is already a plan on the table,” Dujarric emphasized, highlighting that the UN Special Representative for Haiti, María Isabel Salvador, is actively engaging with all parties to encourage actions that benefit the Haitian people.

Addressing potential UN responsibility for failing to prevent a country’s collapse, Dujarric dismissed the notion, citing UN personnel working on the ground at great personal risk to provide assistance and support to the people of Haiti.

Furthermore, Dujarric reiterated that it is the Member States that have not provided adequate funds for the humanitarian response in Haiti or for the multinational police mission. He noted that the latter has only received $10 million in funding, a fraction of what is needed, which amounts to several hundred million dollars.

He recalled that the Secretary-General played his part by expediting an agreement for the police force, which was approved by the Security Council last October but is now facing financial challenges.

The United Nations is actively working to establish an air bridge between Haiti and the Dominican Republic to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid amidst the country’s acute crisis and escalating violence.

Regarding the UN’s presence in Haiti, the organization reiterated its commitment, emphasizing that it will not withdraw from the country. This stance aligns with the actions taken by embassies and diplomatic representations in recent days in response to the worsening violence.

There has been no money for Haiti from the USA/WEST. China will gladly offer loans for concessions.

True enough. Haiti’s problems are of their own doing and ONLY Haiti can fix their problems. Without invading neighboring countries and milking them dry. Seal the border between DR and Haiti except for emergency food aid and legitimate commerce traffic. Authorize use of deadly force at the border.

Haiti is nothing more than a collection of uneducated warlords, drug lords and criminals. Their problems must be addressed from within.

NO to any commerce with DR. Break all relations with Haiti and seal your border against ALL movements and transactions.

That is easier than done. Many Haitian communities along the border rely heavily on the commerce with Dominican merchants for food and financial sustenance. If you cut off the binational commerce, then thousands of Haitians will starve… And what happens when people face hunger?… They become more violent and desperate.

Oh really? Which side was crying when the Haitians closed the border last time? It was not the Haitians. Do you have a basic understanding of economic? The Haitians are buying. You don’t think they can buy from somewhere else.

Again, break all relations with Haiti and seal your border to all movements of goods and people. Do that and stop with your whining.

The Dominican Republic has a trade surplus of nearly $1 billion dollars with Haiti This is well beyond the extra expenses resulting from Haitians being in the country. For three years the international community was aware of the gangsters murdering, raping, kidnapping, robbing and extorting their own people. It was the U.N., Luis Abinader and the USA that took leadership.
