“Loto Real del Cibao” backs ban on foreign lotteries

Santiago.- Yesterday, the executives of “Loto Real del Cibao” voiced their endorsement of the Ministry of Finance’s decision to prohibit the sale of unauthorized foreign lotteries within the Dominican Republic.

In a media statement, the company’s executives fully supported the recent directive issued by the Ministry, which mandates the cessation of marketing and selling unauthorized foreign lotteries in the country.

The directive targets the elimination of draws from games of chance such as those originating from Anguilla, Florida, New York, King Lottery, Mega Millions, PowerBall, and other international franchises.

“Loto Real del Cibao” executives emphasized that these activities not only lack the necessary legal security and tax compliance but also fail to provide customers with certainty regarding prize claims or ensure the integrity of the draws.

Moreover, they underscored that the sale of these foreign lotteries constitutes an infringement of intellectual and industrial property rights. Consequently, transactions involving these lotteries constitute unfair competition. They urged all market participants, including private electronic lottery concessionaires, lottery banking consortia, and software developers, to refrain from incorporating applications that facilitate the sale of foreign lotteries into their operations.

The executives also encouraged other companies associated with national lotteries to adhere to the new regulations set forth by the Ministry of Finance, emphasizing the importance of compliance for fostering a fair and regulated gaming environment. They reiterated their commitment to promoting responsible practices within the lottery industry and pledged to adhere to the regulations established by the Ministry of Finance and the Government of the Dominican Republic.
