Customs officials, experts in Santo Domingo for regional conclave

Santo Domingo.- The Caribbean Council’s 37th annual conference for Customs Law Enforcement (CCLEC) opened Tuesday in Dominican Republic, attended by delegates from 24 of the region’s countries and representatives from international organizations.

The two-day event brings together specialists from the region, the US, Canada and Europe, to discuss a variety of customs violations and other threats, among them weapons smuggling, drug trafficking, and security, and the inter-customs cooperation, among other key challenges.

In a statement the Customs Agency said more than 50 foreign and local customs experts are attending the event it calls of great significance for the authorities. “The region’s customs organization face new and future challenges and need cooperation from countries in the fight against international terrorism, drug trafficking, Customs offenses that threaten the environment, manipulate chemical weapons and counterfeit brands.
