Customs chief, officials face contempt charges

Santo Domingo.- A National District judge on Monday subpoenaed Customs director Fernando Fernandez and several officials to appear in a hearing Tuesday to face contempt charges of the Supreme Arbitration Court, which ruled the release of goods to an importer who paid RD$411,340 in taxes.

First Criminal Chamber judge Keila Perez ordered Fernandez to appear at the hearing in the 1st Instruction Court 9am tomorrow Tuesday, to respond to the complaint filed by Juan Carlos Genao and Importaroda Genao.

The court will hear the complaint against the Customs Agency, which deputy prosecutor Carlos Vidal notes that it’s a civil from and not criminal complaint, which was appealed before the examining judge.
