Conservative party could announce split from pro-government bloc

Santo Domingo.- The pro-government minority party FNP, which as voiced scathing rebuke to president Danilo Medina’s issuing the Executive Order to enforce the Foreigner Regularization and Naturalization Law that affects mostly offspring of undocumented Haitians, will state its position Thursday afternoon, with expectations that it will pull out of the bloc and its leaders resign from senior government posts.

FNP president Marino Vinicio Castillo (Vincho) is the head of the Presidency’s Ethics Comission, while his son and senior leader Pelegrin Castillo heads the Energy and Mines Ministry, while Jose. R. Taveras heads the Immigration Agency.

Castillo’s son Vinicio Castillo Seman was recently designated Deputy to fill the post left by Pelegrin when named at Energy and Mines.

During the last few weeks Marino V. Castillo has railed against Medina, in one occasion calling his “acquiescence to foreign powers a manifestation of treason,” referring to the legislation that has led to confrontation among Dominican society’s various sectors.

The FNP has called a press conference for 4pm to voice its opinion on Medina’s decision to issue the Executive Order for the regulation.

Vinicio Castillo Seman had already warned that if the regulation to enforce Law 169-14 was issued, the FNP would break its alliance with the Government and the ruling PLD party.
