19 people have died from leptospirosis so far this year in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- A total of 19 people have died from leptospirosis so far this year in the Dominican Republic, out of some 260 registered cases, according to information provided by epidemiologist Héctor Balcácer.

The specialist explained that the disease is transmitted through contact with the urine of animals infected with a bacterium. Balcácer clarified that not only can rodents transmit leptospirosis, but also any infected mammal.
