27 de Febrero Boulevard set for major renovation in Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo.-The National District Mayor’s Office will begin renovating Santo Domingo’s 27 de Febrero Boulevard this Tuesday, with plans to transform it into a safe, accessible and pedestrian-friendly urban corridor.
The project is expected to be completed by August 2027 and will create a continuous pedestrian connection between Winston Churchill and Abraham Lincoln avenues. The works will include clearing the boulevard’s entrances, removing advertising screens and recreational structures that obstruct pedestrian circulation.
The renovation will also add new sidewalks, benches, shade structures, trash bins, ornamental lighting and landscaping. The slab over the tunnel will be waterproofed, while existing loads will be reduced to ensure structural safety.
The tunnel will also receive improved ventilation and evacuation routes. The project will be carried out with technical evaluations and approvals from the Ministry of Public Works to ensure compliance with structural and safety standards.
The renovation is part of Mayor Carolina Mejía’s efforts to recover public spaces for residents. The administration says it has already delivered about 220 renovated parks and plazas across the city.
