4.5-magnitude earthquake shakes Samaná, felt in Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo.- A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Sánchez, Samaná province, early Monday, shaking parts of the northeast and Greater Santo Domingo without causing reported injuries or property damage.
According to the Seismological Institute of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), the quake occurred at 1:01 a.m., with its epicenter located about 16.9 kilometers south of Sánchez at a depth of 14.7 kilometers.
Geologist Osiris de León said the tremor was felt across the Samaná Peninsula, as well as in Nagua, the Northeast region, Bajo Yuna, Monte Plata, and Santo Domingo.
Authorities said no casualties or structural damage had been reported as of Monday morning.
