4.9 magnitude earthquake shakes Punta Cana

Punta Cana.- A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck south of Boca de Yuma, in the Dominican Republic’s La Altagracia province, at 12:06 p.m. local time this Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake occurred at a depth of 90 kilometers (56 miles), with its epicenter located about 52 kilometers south of Boca de Yuma.

The tremor was felt in eastern parts of the country, including Verón-Punta Cana, as well as in Puerto Rico, prompting dozens of residents to report the event. Shortly after the earthquake, authorities confirmed that no tsunami warning was issued, and there were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage.
