U.S. Embassy processes more than 54,000 immigrant visas in Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo.- The United States Embassy in Santo Domingo announced that it processed more than 54,000 immigrant visas, making the Dominican Republic the second-largest issuer of U.S. immigrant visas worldwide after Mexico.
According to the embassy, the figure doubles the volume recorded by any other country in the region and reflects the strong family and diplomatic ties between the Dominican Republic and the United States. The mission also highlighted a rise in temporary travel for tourism, education, and employment, including the Summer Work Travel program, which sends about 4,000 Dominican university students to the United States each year under cultural exchange visas.
The embassy further noted that the relationship between both countries is strengthened by trade, tourism, and migration. More than five million American tourists visited the Dominican Republic over the past year, while over 250,000 U.S. citizens currently reside in the country. The diplomatic mission reaffirmed its commitment to protecting American citizens and facilitating legitimate travel and consular services in coordination with Dominican authorities.
