Collado says Dominican Republic needs world-class baseball stadium
Miami.- Tourism Minister David Collado said the Dominican Republic needs a modern baseball stadium that can transform the country’s national sport into a major family entertainment and sports tourism attraction, similar to the stadium experience offered in the United States.
Speaking at LoanDepot Park in Miami during the game between the Miami Marlins and the New York Mets, Collado emphasized that the Dominican Republic must invest in world-class sports infrastructure capable of attracting international visitors, boosting tourism, and enhancing the local baseball experience. He said modern stadiums should become year-round destinations for families, recreation, and entertainment — not only venues filled during championship games.
“If we are a baseball country, we need a stadium that attracts international audiences and becomes a space for leisure and recreation for the whole family,” Collado said. He added that upgraded facilities could also encourage Dominican Major League Baseball stars to participate in local leagues, creating additional tourism opportunities. “If a player like Juan Soto plays at Quisqueya Stadium, you attract tourists,” he stated.
The minister highlighted sports tourism as a growing pillar of the Dominican Republic’s tourism diversification strategy. According to Collado, more than 400,000 tourists visited the country in 2025 specifically for golf tourism, while partnerships with organizations such as the Miami Marlins continue to strengthen the country’s international tourism promotion efforts. He also noted that Florida is the Dominican Republic’s second-largest U.S. tourism market, generating more than 600,000 visitors annually.
