Gonzalo Castillo announces reinstatement of U.S. visa

Santo Domingo.- Former presidential candidate of the Dominican Liberation Party, Gonzalo Castillo, announced Tuesday that United States authorities reinstated his 10-year visa, a decision he publicly welcomed through social media.

In posts shared on X, Castillo thanked the U.S. government, President Donald Trump, and U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Leah Francis Campos, for the measure.

Castillo said the decision reflects the values of freedom, due process, and respect for fundamental rights associated with the United States, particularly during the commemoration of the country’s 250th anniversary.

His visa had previously been revoked amid investigations tied to Operation Calamar, a corruption case in which Dominican prosecutors accused former officials of allegedly diverting billions of pesos through irregular land expropriation payments and the alleged use of bribes to finance the 2020 election campaign.
