Dominican Republic and United Nations analyze impact of Haiti crisis
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Government and the United Nations System (UNS) held their Fourth Political Dialogue to analyze the political, economic, social, and security implications of the ongoing crisis in Haiti and its effects on the Dominican Republic.
The meeting was led by Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and United Nations Resident Coordinator Julia del Carmen Sánchez, who discussed how the multidimensional crisis in Haiti continues to impact the Dominican Republic’s stability, social cohesion, sustainable development, and regional positioning.
During the discussions, officials reviewed the measures implemented by the Dominican State to address the consequences of the Haitian crisis, particularly in areas related to border management, public services, national security, human rights protection, and social stability.
Both parties also identified opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the Dominican Republic and the United Nations, including mechanisms to adapt UN support and maintain ongoing analysis of the evolving situation in Haiti.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both the Dominican Government and the United Nations to continue strategic dialogue and cooperation efforts focused on regional stability, humanitarian challenges, and sustainable development.
