Suriname President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons arrives in Dominican Republic for official visit
Punta Cana.- President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons arrived in the Dominican Republic on Saturday for an official visit that runs through June 2. She was welcomed with military honors and received by senior Dominican officials, including representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Dominican diplomatic mission in Suriname. The Surinamese leader is accompanied by several government officials, including Foreign Minister Melvin Bouva and Transport, Communications and Tourism Minister Raymond Landveld.
On Monday, Geerlings-Simons will hold a series of official meetings with Dominican President Luis Abinader at the National Palace. The agenda includes a private bilateral meeting, discussions between both countries’ delegations, the signing of cooperation agreements, and a joint declaration. The Surinamese president will also pay tribute at the Altar of the Fatherland alongside Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez.
On Tuesday, Geerlings-Simons is scheduled to meet with congressional leaders before addressing a joint session of the Dominican legislature. Her visit reflects the growing ties between the Dominican Republic and Suriname, which have strengthened cooperation in areas such as energy, hydrocarbons, agriculture, and air services. Recent agreements and diplomatic initiatives have focused on expanding trade, promoting sustainable energy development, and deepening bilateral collaboration.
