Dominican Republic and European Union strengthen ties at Fifth Political Dialogue

Brussels, Belgium.- The Dominican Republic and the European Union held their Fifth Political Dialogue in Brussels, reaffirming their commitment to democracy, multilateralism, security, sustainable development, and international cooperation. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the European External Action Service as part of Dominican Week in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The Dominican delegation, led by Vice Minister of Bilateral Foreign Policy Francisco Caraballo, and EU representatives discussed key issues including the implementation of the Samoa Agreement, international mobility, regional cooperation, and the Economic Partnership Agreement between CARIFORUM and the European Union. Both sides reaffirmed their interest in expanding trade, investment, and development opportunities.

Discussions also focused on security cooperation, including efforts to combat organized crime, drug trafficking, migrant smuggling, and cybercrime. The parties exchanged views on the situation in Haiti, with the Dominican Republic emphasizing the need for a coordinated international response to the crisis. Both delegations agreed to continue strengthening political dialogue and cooperation mechanisms and confirmed that the next high-level meeting will be held in the Dominican Republic in 2027.
