APORDOM highlights record growth in Dominican cruise tourism

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) highlighted the continued growth of the country’s cruise industry, attributing its success to ongoing investments in port infrastructure promoted by President Luis Abinader. According to APORDOM Executive Director Jean Luis Rodríguez, these projects have strengthened the Dominican Republic’s position as one of the Caribbean’s leading cruise destinations while generating economic opportunities for coastal communities.

Rodríguez noted that cruise passenger arrivals have experienced significant growth in recent years, rising from nearly 1.2 million visitors in 2022 to 2.7 million in 2025. He emphasized the importance of continuing investments in strategic port locations to showcase the country’s attractions and expand the benefits of tourism across local economies.

For June, APORDOM expects 32 cruise ship arrivals at Dominican ports, led by Amber Cove in Puerto Plata with 17 vessels, followed by Taíno Bay with 13 and Port Cabo Rojo in Pedernales with two. The agency projects a 23.1% increase in cruise arrivals compared to June of last year, when 26 ships docked in the country, reflecting the sector’s sustained momentum. APORDOM noted that schedules remain subject to changes due to weather conditions and cruise line adjustments.
