Dominican Navy rescues two foreigners from sinking vessel in Atlantic Ocean
The Dominican Republic Navy rescued two foreign nationals after their vessel, the CAICOS CAT, suffered mechanical problems and began taking on water in the Atlantic Ocean near the country’s northern coast.
The rescue operation was launched following an alert from the Maritime Operations Center, which coordinated the deployment of naval units to the vessel’s location. Upon arrival, Navy personnel found the boat partially submerged and safely evacuated its two crew members, both citizens of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The rescued individuals were transported ashore and evaluated by medical teams from the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1. Authorities reported that both were in stable condition and had not sustained any injuries.
Following the operation, Navy Commander General Juan B. Crisóstomo Martínez urged vessel operators to inspect the mechanical condition of their boats, carry appropriate safety equipment, and notify authorities of their navigation routes before departure to help prevent maritime emergencies.
