Dominican Republic to host UNDP Democracy and Development Report Launch

Santo Domingo.- The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will present its regional report, “Democracies under Pressure: Reimagining the Futures of Democracy and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean,” in the Dominican Republic on June 8. The event will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will bring together government officials, international representatives, and development experts to discuss the region’s democratic challenges.

The presentation will feature the participation of President Luis Abinader, Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, UNDP Regional Director Michelle Muschett, and UNDP Chief Economist Almudena Fernández. The discussion will be moderated by Ana María Díaz.

The report analyzes the growing pressures facing democracies across Latin America and the Caribbean, including political polarization, disinformation, digital transformation, social inequality, climate change, and migration. It also proposes strategies to strengthen democratic institutions, improve state capacity, and promote more inclusive, resilient, and cohesive societies throughout the region.
