Dominican Republic’s electronic passport, “the best new travel document in Latin America”
The Dominican Republic’s electronic passport was recognized with the High Security Printing Latin America Award, in the Best New ID/Travel Document Series category, a distinction that rewards the most innovative and secure identity and travel document series in the region.
The award was presented during the annual “High Security Printing Latin America” conference, the main forum specializing in security technologies for Government documents, which brings together authorities, international organizations, and experts from across Latin America.
The jury assessed aspects such as the design of the new passport, the incorporation of advanced identity-protection technologies, the physical and electronic security elements, and the document’s ability to meet the highest international standards for authentication and fraud prevention.
With this distinction, the Dominican Republic consolidates its position as a regional leader in document modernization, validating the institutional effort made to provide the country with a state-of-the-art passport.
The award was received by the Director General of Passports, Lorenzo Ramírez, and the President of Midas, Daniel Ureña, the local representative of the consortium responsible for the design and development of the security solutions implemented in the new Dominican passport.
Ramírez stated that today the Dominican Republic has documents that meet the highest international security standards, offering greater guarantees to both citizens and the authorities responsible for validating their authenticity.
“This constitutes international validation of the State vision promoted by President Luis Abinader for the modernization of fundamental documents such as the passport, the national identity card and the driver’s license, and demonstrates that the country has managed to implement world-class solutions that strengthen security and protect the identity of Dominicans,” he said.
Winning the award positions the country as a regional leader in innovation and identity protection, strengthening confidence in its travel document both nationally and internationally.
