Canadian tourism to the Dominican Republic is strengthening
The country continues to solidify its position as a favorite destination.
The reduction in Canadian travel to the United States and the operational crisis affecting tourism in Cuba coincide with a strengthening of the Canadian market towards the Dominican Republic, which continues to consolidate itself as one of the favorite Caribbean destinations for North American travelers.
The situation arose while the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, was on a promotional tour this week in Montreal, Canada, where he highlighted that the Dominican Republic surpassed 1.1 million Canadian visitors in 2025. According to data released by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) and published by Diario Libre, the provinces of Ontario and Quebec alone accounted for 991,564 tourists, of whom 544,833 were from Ontario and 446,731 from Quebec.
During the roadshow held in Montreal, Collado highlighted that Quebec accounts for 39% of Canadian tourist arrivals, positioning it as one of the most important source markets for the Dominican tourism industry.
The figures
The growth of the Canadian market was also reflected in the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) ‘s most recent regional report, presented last March. The report indicated that 63% of tourists arriving in the Dominican Republic came from North America, with Canada registering a 14% increase compared to February 2025. Mexico showed a 47% increase, and the United States showed a 6% increase.
